Happy 4th: Photos of Our Nations Capital

Here are some photos from my wonderful trip to Washington DC two years ago. It was an amazing trip. Early mornings and late evenings lead to beautiful light and uncrowded streets. My crew visited every iconic sight in DC. It was a wonderful way to experience out nations capital and see all the sights. Before this trip I had only been to DC once, in 8th grade. So this was a nice way to enjoy and learn about DC as an adult and photographer. I hope you enjoy! Happy 4th!

Wedding Photography in Crested Butte: Sara & Allan's Wedding

Wedding Photography in Crested Butte
The Wedding Garden & Butte 66

What a wedding weekend! The weather was amazing Saturday and crummy on Sunday, perfect timing! The sun was shinning, the breeze was light and the temp was a cool 70. Everyone was happy, relaxed and at ease in front of the camera, which always makes for a nice time for me and my team.

Having a small wedding party, only four total, makes for some fun and ease in the photography. Although a large wedding party can add a lot of drama and dynamics, a small wedding party is easily mobile and can be shot quickly. It is especially easy to remember everyone's name in the wedding party, which not only makes it easy to direct but everyone quickly feels comfortable with the photographer and the photographing.

The beauty of the day was only enhanced by the beauty of the land. The lupine and sunflowers were at peak last weekend, creating some amazing backdrops to an already pretty incredible landscape. I especially enjoyed creating this panorama, giving the viewer a really 180 degree image.

The full moon rising over the mountain left us with nothing short of an amazing ending to a wonderful day. Thank you Hagopain and Porter families. Congrats and good luck!

I look out my window and noticed the amazing light that was falling on the earth. I grabbed up my camera and headed up the road. Only shot off a few frames but was very pleased with this one. I love when that happeneds

There is nothing like enjoying the beach life while it is snowing snowing snowing back home in CO. I am in Nosara, Costa Rica for 2 weeks and loving the life, photographic opportunities and the warm air! There are beautiful flowers blooming around the house I am staying in so before heading to the beach I walked around and shot off a few frames. I was torn between this photo in color or in black and white. The flower is a bright orange with red stems and deep green leaves. But the image in black and white feels so soft and architectural. I'm still not sure but I am enjoying the black and white image for now.

I took this photo on a very emotional day. I felt the need to memorialize the day with a photograph. When I walked out of the house and saw the long shadows and sun rays peaking through the trees I knew this was the shot. I did some post-processing in Lightroom and Perfect Effects 4 to soften the look and enhance the colors. I am happy with the end result. It feels ethereal and captures the mood and feelings i was having at that time. This photo was taken in Austin, MN.
